In 1931 Peter McIntyre moved to London to attend the Slade School of Fine Art where he studied from 1931 - 1934. After completing his studies he stayed in London working as a commercial artist until the outbreak of War. In 1939 McIntyre enlisted as a gunner with he 34th Anti-tank Battery, a New Zealand volunteer unit formed in London.
