“For nearly two hundred years – almost since the founding of its mission in 1786 – Santa Barbara has meant palm-shaded luxury and a gracious way of life. We had tea in one of those old fairytale Spanish castles with a very gracious lady who still lived in the manner of old Santa Barbara. We were even greeted at the door by a venerable English butler called Billings.”
Peter McIntyre. (1970) Peter McIntyre’s West
McIntyre and his wife, Patty, travelled to the United States of America to paint and write for his self titled book, Peter McIntyre’s West. Their journey would take them “as far south as the Mexican border, east to New Mexico, and as far north as Alaska – a journey covering somewhere around 20,000 miles”. Their journey through the American heart- land led McIntyre to expand his painting practice. McIntyre’s voyage through America allowed the artist to explore new subject matters and painterly techniques and it is this exploration that has led to the innovations in artistic style visible in McIntyre’s West works.
