Peter McIntyre is one of New Zealand’s most significant 20th century artists.

Peter McIntyre came to prominence during the Second World War when General Bernard Freyberg appointed him as a New Zealand Official War Artist.

As a war artist and a member of the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Forces Peter McIntyre painted the campaigns in Crete, Greece, Italy and North Africa.

When the war ended he returned to New Zealand and built a career as a celebrated painter and author, publishing eight books.

Peter McIntyre was ‘New Zealand’s artist’ during the decades the nation defined its’ cultural identity. His artwork and his writing holds a significant place within New Zealand and ANZAC history.
